Not bad for a first review in Boston. Only problem is they mistook my younger brother Cody for my twin Rory. It happens! Check out the link.

“In contrast to these installations are a large-scale portrait by Zane Turner, and an equally large painting by Marybeth Rothman. The subject of Turner’s work What do you mean it’s going to crumble is his twin brother who, in a moment of anger and bewilderment, looks out from beneath a lava-like mask and directly at the viewer. Paradoxically, the mask does not conceal the subject; instead it hints that there is a much deeper, intransient spirit within him. The work is initially aggressive, but the sensual encaustic strokes of its subject’s eyes and amazing lips slowly draws one in to ask, who is this man…?”

Congratulations! “What do you mean it’s going to crumble” was accepted for inclusion in:
The Future of the Past: Encaustic Art in the 21st Century exhibition.

An Invitational and Juried International Exhibition
The Mills Gallery at the Boston Center for the Arts – Boston, Massachusetts
Making Zane Turner the only Canadian artist working with encaustic chosen to exhibit amongst so of the most innovative encaustic artists in North America.

The purpose of the exhibition is to explore how modern artists are informed and inspired by encaustic methods and traditions and to spotlight the current explosion of artistic experimentation.

The submissions represented an extraordinary array of contemporary encaustic work, and the competition was great. 173 artists entered the competition creating a total of over 500 works for the jurors to consider. After much deliberation, 34 pieces from 31 artists were selected.

It was a privilege to be interviewed by Amatoritsero Ede from MTLS. I enjoyed their questions it gave me a chance to delve into my process and really transform my art into words, which is always a challenge.
I appreciate the thoughtful insight of MTLS, making the connection between slavery, William Turners’ master works, and my work with rusty boats and black faces, it was brilliant. However, I had to double-check my genealogy to rule out any relation with line of William Turner the great British painter.

Ce fut un privilège d’être interviewé par Amatoritsero Ede de MTLS. J’ai beaucoup apprécié ses questions, ça m’a donné l’occasion de plonger dans mon processus de création et de vraiment transformer mon art en mots, ce qui est toujours un défi.
J’ai aimé le lien qu’a fait Mr. Ede, entre l’esclavage, les œuvres de William Turner et mes séries “rusty boats” et “negro colourful”, c’était génial. Après verification, je n’ai cependant pas de lien famlial avec William Turner.
